Gill Bowman & Song Circle - The Red Album

The Red Album is a charming collection of songs, poems and rhymes for the under-five age group from Scottish folk singer and song writer Gill Bowman.

Classic nursery rhymes are mixed with less well known Scottish traditional songs and some of her own original compositions and they all have a fresh, natural sound, reflecting the live Song Circle experience which Gill hosts in the cosy back room of her family cafe in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Some of the songs are unaccompanied and others have her bright acoustic guitar picking to liven things up. This is an album full of variety, familiarity and simplicity without too much over production. At 25 tracks and in three distinct parts, much thought has gone into pacing the content so little ears are entertained and adult ears do not become irritated. A great CD to put on in the car for long journeys - the whole family can sing along.

Gill’s hugely popular Song Circle sessions in Skylark Cafe are testament to the power of song to develop early language skills and build confidence and self-esteem, and being a unique and independent little business means that only children lucky enough to live in Edinburgh can attend. However, the Red Album on the Brechin All Records recording label brings that music to a far wider audience.
