Hailing from the North Kerry town of Tarbert, Brian Friel began playing at the age of seven. The young Brian was surrounded by traditional Irish music, and his parents, grandparents and great grandparents all inspired and influenced him as he took his first steps on his musical path.

Brian progressed quickly, winning All-Ireland titles on the banjo and mandolin alike at the Fleadh Cheoil Eireann, Ireland
